ED Attaches Vijay Mallya’s Properties
- The Enorcement Directorate (ED) has attached properties worth Rs 1411 crore of Vijay Mallya.
- The assets under provisional attachment included bank balance of Rs 34 crore,a flat each in Bengaluru & Mumbai & an industrial plot in Chennai.
- The attachment of properties is in connection with the Rs 900 cr loan fraud with the IDBI Bank.
- Kingfisher Airlines owes more than Rs 9000 crore to various banks.
SEBI Issue Stricter KYC Norms for P-Note
- SEBI has put in place a stricter KYC norms & disclosure regime for Participatory Notes.
- The aim is to make it tougher to use these offshore instruments.
- Under the new norms,all the users of P-Notes would have to follow Indian KYC & Anti Money Laundering Regulations, irrespective of jurisdictions.
- P-Notes are instruments issued to overseas investors,who wish to invest in the Indian stock markets
India Ranks 141 in Global Peace Index
- India was ranked 141 out of 163 countries on a Global Peace Index.
- India has moved up two position, from 141st last year,
- In a list compiled by global think tank Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), Syria has been named the least peaceful.
- It was followed by South Sudan,Iraq &Afghanistan.
- Iceland was ranked as the world’s most peaceful country, followed by Denmark & Austria.
Veteran Journalist Inder Malhotra Dies
- Eminent journalist Inder Malhotra & an accomplished political commentator has passed away.
- Malhotra began his career at the United Press of India news agency & went on to hold editorial positions at leading dailies.
- He was editor of The Times of India, New Delhi from 1978-86.
- He was awarded the Ramnath Goenka Lifetime Achievement award in 2013.
Sikkim Launches Open Govt Data Portal
- Sikkim has become the first state in India to have an open government data portal.
- Lok Sabha MP, P D Rai has launched the open government data portal “Sikkim.data.gov.in”.
- The open government data portal, the data produced or commissioned by the government or government controlled entities can be freely used, reused &redistributed by anyone.
Paes Gets Olympic Ticket
- Veteran Leander Paes got the nod for his seventh Olympic appearance after the All India Tennis Association (AITA) paired him with Rohan Bopanna for the men’s tennis doubles competition.
- Bopanna will be pairing up with Sania Mirza in the mixed doubles.
- Sania will be teaming up with Prarthana Thombare min the women’s doubles event.
Star Health Ties up with Bank of India
- Star Health Insurance & Bank of India has entered into a corporate agency agreement to market the insurer’s products across the bank’s branches in the entire country.
- This tie-up will enable Star Health to leverage Bank of India’s network of all branches & huge customer base across the country.
- Star Health has collected premium of Rs 2,007 crore in the last financial year 2015-2016.
KL Rahul Score An ODI Hundred On Debut
- Opener Lokesh Rahul created history when he became the first Indian to score a hundred on One-Day International debut gainst Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club.
- Overall, he became the 11th player to achieve the feat on debut.
- Before this, Robin Uthappa’s 86 against England at Indore in 2006 was the highest score by an Indian player on his ODI debut.
- India won the first ODI against Zimbabwe in Harare.
Satya Pal Appointed Law Commission Member
- Additional Solicitor General of India & former Parliamentarian Satya Pal Jain has been appointed as a part-time member of the Law Commission of India.
- This appointment is in addition to his charge as an Additional Solicitor General of India.
- He has been a lawyer in various important civil &criminal cases.
- The President had constituted the 21st Law Commission of India on Sept 14, 2015.
Pakistan Tops the Malware Index List
- Microsoft has launched its Malware Infection Index 2016.
- It has found that the top three most-encountered malware are the Gamarue computer worm,trojans Skeeyah & Peals.
- Pakistan tops the list of countries figuring in the Malware Infection Index 2016 & India ranks 8th on the list.
- At least four out of ten computers in Asia Pacific countries are likely to be infected with malware.
