Sunrisers Hyderabad Win Maiden IPL Title

  1. Sunrisers Hyderabad clinched their maiden Indian Premier League title.
  2. Sunrisers defeated Royal Challengers by eight runs to win their maiden IPL title
  3. Ben Cutting of Hyderabad was declared the Man of the Match for his all round performance.
  4. Virat Kohli was named the Most Valuable Player of IPL 2016.
  5. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took the Purple Cap for most wickets

India Among Top 10 Steel Importers

  1. India, the world’s third largest steel producer was among the top 10 importers of the alloy last year.
  2. India imported 13.3 million tonnes (mt) of the metal in 2015 & placed at 10th position.
  3. European Union (37.7 mt),followed by the US (36.5 mt) & Germany (24.8 mt) was the top three steel importer in 2015.
  4. This was according to the latest data by the global industry body World Steel Association.

Turkey’s New PM Wins Vote of Confidence

  1. Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim’s government has won a vote of confidence in parliament.
  2. Yildirim is a close ally of President Tayyip Erdogan and a co-founder of the ruling AK Party.
  3. He was declared prime minister after he was elected as the new leader of the AK Party at a party congress.
  4. He replaces Ahmet Davutoglu who had step down after weeks of tension with Erdogan.

Govt to Sell off 14 ITDC Hotels

  1. Fourteen out of 16 perennially loss making hotels owned by India Tourism Development Corp. (ITDC) will be sold off.
  2. The process to privatise them has already started, said tourism & culture minister Mahesh Sharma.
  3. The government will offload stakes in all the ITDC-run hotels except the Ashoka & Samrat hotels.
  4. Earlier the then Vajpayee govt. had divested its stakes in 18 ITDC hotels.

President Presented Gyan Peeth Puraskar

  1. The President Shri Pranab Mukherjee presented the Malti Gyan Peeth Puraskar for the year2016.
  2. The award was conferred upon 15 teachers from Punjab.
  3. Every year govt school teachers from Punjab receive this award for their contributions in the field of education.
  4. The award was instituted by Mohinder Singh Syngle Education & Research Society in honour of its founder Mrs Malti Mohinder Singh Syngle.

Lewis Hamilton Wins Monaco Grand Prix

  1. Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has won a close battle in a thrilling Monaco Grand Prix 2016.
  2. Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo started from pole position & finished second.
  3. Hamilton’s victory has closed the gap on championship leader Nico Rosberg, his teammate, who finished a lowly seventh.
  4. The Monaco Grand Prix is a Formula One motor race held each year on the Circuit de Monaco, since 1929.

Jordan King Abdullah Dissolve Parliament

  1. Jordan’s King Abdullah announced a decree to dissolve the country’s parliament.
  2. The announcement came at the end of the parliament’s four-year term.
  3. Under the constitutional rules the election must be held within four months.
  4. He appointed Hani al-Mulqi as prime minister to oversee new elections.
  5. Hani Mulqi was the ambassador to Egypt from 2002-2004 & again from 2008-2011

International Day of UN Peacekeepers

  1. International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers is observed every year May 29.
  2. The International Day of UN Peacekeepers is a day to pay tribute to all the men and women who have served & continue to serve in United Nations peacekeeping operations.
  3. The day was s designated by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 57/129 on 11 December 2002.
  4. The theme for 2016 is Honouring our Heroes.

ISRO to Launch 22 Satellite in Single Go

  1. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)  said that it will launch a record 22 satellites in a single mission.
  2. Isro’s Polar rocket PSLV C34, will be used for the launch,which will have satellites from US, Canada, Indonesia & Germany as co-passengers.
  3. The launch is scheduled during the end of next month,
  4. The space agency had earlier sent 10 satellites into orbit in a single mission in 2008.

Hamid Ansari Leaves for Morocco, Tunisia

  1. Vice-President Hamid Ansari embarked on a 5 day visit to Morocco & Tunisia.
  2. This is the first visit by an Indian Vice-President in 50 years to the two nations.
  3. The Vice-President will discuss issues of terrorism, investments in private sector, as well as ways to strengthen outreach to Africa & regional matters.
  4. Mr. Ansari will be in Morocco till June 1 at the invitation of PM Abdelilah Benkirane.
