Telangana Hoists India’s Largest Flag
- On Telangana’s second formation day, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao hoisted India’s biggest & largest tricolour in Hyderabad.
- The flag stands tall on the banks of Hussain Sagar Lake in Sanjeevaiah Park.
- The gigantic flag measures 108 by 72 feet. It is two feet short of being the tallest flag.
- The tallest tri-colour is on a 293-foot-high pole, in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
Pvt Sector Talent in PSUs Wins Approval
- The Cabinet gave an ‘ex-post facto’ approval for amending public sector recruitment rules to allow the selection of candidates from the private sector.
- The nod is for the selection of candidates from the private sector as non-internal candidates for a period of five years for appointment in Central Public Sector Enterprises.
- The move is expected to bring in greater efficiency in the working.
Odisha to Give Benefits to Transgenders
- Odisha is first state in the country to give transgender people social welfare benefits such as a pension,housing & food grains.
- The move was aimed at improving their overall social and economic status.
- Members of the transgender community will be given BPL cards that will allow them to access govt. welfare schemes.
- India’s Supreme Court has recognised transgender as a legal third gender.
India-US to Share Info on Terror
- India & the US have signed a key pact for exchange of intelligence on terror on a real time basis.
- This pact would help India access unclassified biographic information of known and suspected terrorists
- The pact was signed by Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi &US Ambassador to India Richard Verma.
- The arrangement would enhance the counter terrorism cooperation between India & USA.
2 Indian Origin Women in Forbes List
- Two Indian-origin women have featured on the Forbes’ annual list of America’s 60 wealthiest & successful self-made women entrepreneurs.
- India-born Neerja Sethi,who co-founded IT consulting firm Syntel is ranked 16th on Forbes’ list.
- Jayshree Ullal President & CEO of Arista Networks is ranked 30th.
- The richest self-made woman in America is Diane Hendricks, the owner of ABC Supply.
Messi Appear in Court at Tax Fraud Trial
- The Barcelona & Argentina football star, Lionel Messi has appeared in court in Barcelona to testify for the first time at his tax fraud trial.
- Messi & his father Jorge, who manages his finances are accused of defrauding Spain of €4.1m.
- The authorities allege that the two used tax havens in Belize a&Uruguay to conceal earnings .
- Spain’s tax agency is demanding heavy fines and prison sentences.
Kiran Mazumdar Take the Giving Pledge
- Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, chairman & MD of Biocon has been named in the list of The Giving Pledge.
- The Giving Pledge is a global initiative that encourages billionaires to give the majority of their wealth to philanthropic causes .
- Shaw joins Wipro chairman Azim Premji as the only resident Indians to have taken the pledge.
- The new list published added 17 new individuals,bringing total to 154.
Bengaluru Among Top 5 Innovation Hubs
- The Bengaluru has emerged as one of the top five locations for innovation centres of global firms.
- This was according to a study by France-based IT consulting and services company Capgemini.
- Bengaluru did not figure in a similar list prepared by Capgemini in July 2015.
- In its latest list, the city came in fifth after Silicon Valley, London, Paris & Singapore.
India Joins Hague Code of Conduct
- India has joined The Hague Code of Conduct against Ballistic Missile Proliferation (HCoC).
- It is a voluntary legally non-binding multilateral body aimed at preventing the spread of ballistic missiles that can deliver weapons of mass destruction.
- The HCoC was formally brought into effect in 2002.
- It was earlier known as the International Code of Conduct Against Ballistic Missile Proliferation.
India and Tunisia Ink Two MoUs
- India & Tunisia sign two MoUs on promotion of handicrafts & IT & digital economy.
- The two sides will promote each other’s handicraft & increase mutual cooperation in the IT & related sectors.
- The MoUs were signed after Ansari & Tunisia PM Habib Essid held one-on-one talks which were followed by the delegation-level talks.
- India & Tunisia have maintained their friendly relations since 1958.
