Cameroon Footballer Patrick Ekeng Dies

  • Cameroon footballer Patrick Ekeng has died after collapsing on the pitch playing a first division match with his Romanian side Dinamo Bucharest.
  • He fell to the ground shortly after coming on as a 62nd-minute substitute during a league match.
  • He fell to the ground without any contact with another player.
  • Cameroon midfielder Marc-Vivien Foe also died after collapsing on the pitch in 2003.

Irish PM Enda Kenny Re-Elected

  • Enda Kenny has been re-elected as prime minister of Ireland.
  • Mr Kenny is the first Fine Gael party leader to secure two terms in power back to back.
  • His Fine Gael party won the most seats in the election but fell short of the quota needed to rule without support.
  • Fine Gael will stay in government only with  support from Fianna Fail.
  • It is now expected that Mr Kenny will lead a minority govt.

Pakistan Retain Asia Kabaddi Title

  • Pakistan won the Asian Kabaddi championships held in Islamabad, retaining the title.
  • They defeated India 50-31 in the last match of the tournament.
  • Pakistan hosted the third edition of the Asia Circle Style Kabaddi Cup for the second time.
  • Seven teams including India, Iran, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka & Pakistan participated in the international event.

SBI Launches Card-less Payment Solution

  • State Bank of India announced the launch of mVisa, a mobile-based payment solution .
  • The service will help customers make payments through their smartphones by simply scanning the unique merchant QR (Quick Response) code.
  • SBI customers can now make easy payments to the merchants by simply scanning QR code image
  • This eliminates the need to swipe the physical card at a point-of-sale (PoS) machine

Reliance Gets nod for LNG Plant

  • Reliance Power has won an in-principle approval of the Bangladesh govt. for the first phase of the 3000 megawatt LNG-based power plant.
  • Under the approval,first phase of 750 MW power plant will be set up at Meghnaghat.
  • It will also set up the FSRU terminal at Maheshkhali Island in Cox’s Bazar district of Bangladesh.
  • Power plant at Meghnaghat will be provided by Bangladesh Power Development Board.

India 4th in Junior Shooting World Cup

  • Indian shooters have ended their campaign at the International Shooting Sport Federation Junior World Cup in Suhl,Germany at a creditable fourth position.
  • They finished with 2 gold, 4 silver & 3 bronze.
  • Rituraj Singh won two gold medals in both the individual & team events of the men’s 25m Standard Pistol.
  • Shivam Shukla won a gold & a silver.
  • Yashaswini Singh Deswal won two silver medals.

N Korea Party Congress Kicked Off

  • North Korea kicked off its biggest political show for a generation.
  • The party congress aimed at cementing the absolute rule of leader Kim Jong-Un & shadowed by the possibility of an imminent nuclear test.
  • The party congress drew thousands of selected delegates from across the country to Pyongyang.
  • It is the seventh meeting of North Korea’s Worker’s Party and the first since 1980.

Khan Become First Muslim Mayor of London

  • Labour Party Sadiq Khan, the son of a bus driver, became London’s first Muslim mayor.
  • Khan beat out Conservative candidate Zac Goldsmith at the polls.
  • He received 1,310,143 votes, higher than for any previous London Mayor.
  • He will succeed Boris Johnson as the Mayor of London.
  • He has served as the Labour MP for Tooting since 2005, is one of the country’s most prominent pro-LGBT Muslim politicians.

Idea,Google Partner for Carrier Billing

  • Idea Cellular with Google India introduced a joint initiative of direct carrier billing for the 184 million Idea subscribers.
  • The launch of direct carrier billing provides an option to purchase digital content on Google Play Store with a telecom account.
  • This billing does away with the need to have a credit/debit card to purchase a game or movie or e-book on Google Play Store.

M L Mehta Panel on Revising Metro Fares

  • Justice M L Mehta was appointed as chairman of a 3 member govt. panel on revision of Delhi Metro rail fares.
  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal for appointment.
  • The panel will submit its report within 3 months time.
  • The DMRC had requested the Centre to constitute the Fare Fixation Committee for recommending fares.
  • The fares were last revised in 2009.
